Leave my cigars alone! They haven’t hurt anybody! The government deciding on trying to pass a bill to raise the federal tax on a cigar from $0.05 to $10. A 20,000% tax increase. Aren’t there laws against that??
Yes, I hear you saying they are also taxing cigarettes, but that is only a fraction of what cigars are being raised. There are nearly 400 billion cigarettes sold each year, and only 5.3 billion cigars. So leave the cigars alone and if you just raise the cigarettes up another fraction, that could yield a MUCH higher rate then the $10 cigar tax. That would not yield a single dime, because nobody could afford to smoke cigars. (more…)
